CMC Markets has extended 24-hour weekday trading in US shares to its CMC Invest platform, giving UK clients access to whole and fractional shares during overnight and extended sessions.The broker says fractional orders support every order type available on the platform, including market orders, outside the core US session. Investing carries zero commission, although CMC states that other charges apply.
Twenty-Four Hours Does Not Mean Identical Liquidity
Longer access lets clients react to earnings, company announcements and macroeconomic news before the main US session opens. Orders in overnight markets can still face fewer participants, wider spreads and lower displayed depth than they would during regular trading hours.That distinction is particularly important for market orders, which prioritise execution over price. Availability will also depend on the eligible security and the venue or market maker supporting the session.
Fractional Shares Lower The Ticket Size
Fractional investing lets clients specify an amount rather than buying a complete share. Combining that feature with extended hours gives investors control over both timing and position size, particularly for high-priced US stocks.A fractional interest is administered through the broker’s custody structure and may not carry every transfer or voting feature available to a whole registered share. Zero Commission Is Not Zero Cost
CMC’s commission rate for investing is 0%, but the announcement explicitly says other charges apply. Total execution cost can include the bid-offer spread, foreign-exchange conversion and any account or service charges set out in the platform’s fee schedule.The launch brings CMC Invest closer to the extended-hours functionality offered by trading products elsewhere in the group. The next useful disclosures will be the number of eligible shares, the precise session schedule and the execution venues used for overnight orders.
