Crypto ETFs Lose $164.8 Million on October 16 as BlackRock…

US-listed cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds ended Friday, October 16, 2026, with combined net outflows of $164.8 million across Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana products, extending a difficult week for digital asset investment vehicles.According to Farside Investors, Bitcoin ETFs recorded $82.4 million in withdrawals, Ethereum funds lost $69.7 million and Solana products experienced $12.7 million in redemptions. The result represented a deterioration from Thursday’s combined $65 million outflow, despite Bitcoin funds briefly returning to positive territory during the previous session.BlackRock accounted for the largest withdrawals in both Bitcoin and Ethereum, while Bitwise led Solana redemptions. Across the five trading sessions from October 12 through October 16, the three categories collectively lost approximately $585.5 million. The figures highlight persistent weakness in cryptocurrency ETF demand, although daily fund flows do not independently establish whether investors are responding to macroeconomic conditions, portfolio rebalancing or cryptocurrency price movements.

BlackRock Drives Bitcoin and Ethereum Withdrawals

Bitcoin ETFs recorded $82.4 million in net outflows on October 16, reversing Thursday’s $5.1 million inflow. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) experienced $71.8 million in redemptions, representing approximately 87% of the category’s total withdrawals.Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) accounted for the remaining $10.6 million, while other tracked Bitcoin products reported no net movement. The result followed a volatile week that included $261.4 million in Bitcoin ETF withdrawals on October 14 and $175.7 million in inflows on October 13.For the full trading week, Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $228.4 million in net outflows. Ethereum funds also remained under pressure, losing $69.7 million on Friday. BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) accounted for the entire amount, with all other tracked Ethereum funds recording zero net flows. The result marked Ethereum ETFs’ third consecutive negative session following withdrawals of $129.5 million on Wednesday and $60.3 million on Thursday. Across the week, Ethereum products experienced approximately $320.1 million in cumulative net redemptions.

Solana Outflows Accelerate as Weekly Losses Mount

Solana ETFs recorded $12.7 million in net outflows on Friday, worsening from Thursday’s $9.8 million withdrawal. Bitwise’s Solana ETF (BSOL) accounted for the entire decline, while competing products reported no net movement. The category has experienced sustained redemptions throughout October, with the five sessions ending October 16 producing approximately $25.5 million in withdrawals.Solana’s smaller ETF market means comparatively modest dollar movements can represent meaningful changes in investor demand. Across Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana, the week’s combined withdrawals reached approximately $585.5 million, with Ethereum accounting for more than half. The negative flows coincided with broader cryptocurrency market weakness and uncertainty surrounding US interest rates. However, ETF redemptions measure changes in fund shares outstanding rather than secondary-market trading volume or total investor losses. The latest figures indicate reduced net exposure through regulated investment products, but do not establish a sustained decline in institutional cryptocurrency allocations. The next trading sessions will determine whether Friday’s withdrawals represent continued selling pressure or a temporary adjustment following a volatile week.
