Where is the media outrage?

16-year-old track and football star Austin Metcalf was brutally stabbed to death Wednesday morning during a championship track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

Metcalf, a junior at Frisco Memorial High School, was attacked in broad daylight — at a school-sanctioned event meant to showcase hard work, discipline, and sportsmanship.

The suspect, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony of rival school Frisco Centennial, is now charged with first-degree murder, according to Fox News.

This horrifying act of violence occurred around 10 a.m. during the University Interscholastic League’s District 11-5A championship meet. Witnesses say the attack was swift and left little time for intervention.

According to the press release:

On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m., Frisco Police and Fire responded to an incident at a track meet in the 6900 block of Stadium Lane. An altercation between two students resulted in one stabbing the other. Despite lifesaving measures by police and fire personnel, including CPR and the administration of blood, the 16-year-old victim died.

The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony of Frisco, is in custody and there is no further threat to the public. He has been charged with Murder, a 1st Degree Felony. No bond has been set at this time.

This is an active and ongoing investigation with resources from FPD’s School Resource Division, Patrol Division, and Criminal Investigations Division devoted to it…

The Frisco Police Department grieves with all those affected by this devastating loss and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, students, and staff who are experiencing unimaginable pain. The department is collaborating with the Frisco Independent School District and will continue to provide any support they need during this incredibly difficult time.

Jeff Metcalf stated that his son, Austin Metcalf, was killed after Karmelo Anthony became upset about being told he was in the wrong place, according to NBC News.

Metcalf said his son didn’t know the student who attacked him. Austin’s twin brother, Hunter, was nearby when the confrontation happened—he witnessed the stabbing and desperately tried to stop the bleeding.

“They were twins, identical twins, and his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms,” Metcalf told NBC News.

“I rushed up there and I saw him on the gurney and I could tell — they said he wasn’t breathing. I could see all the blood, and I saw where the wound was, and I was very concerned, so I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital. And we prayed, and it’s God’s plan, I don’t understand it, but they weren’t able to save him. This is murder.”

“I’m not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet and he murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart. The guy was in the wrong place and they asked him to move and he bowed up. This is murder,” Metcalf said.

“You know what, I already forgive this person,” he added. “Already. God takes care of things. God is going to take care of me. God is going to take care of my family.”

Frisco Memorial Principal Brook Fesco informed parents and staff in an emotional email obtained by Fox News that Metcalf had died from his injuries, calling it an “unthinkable tragedy.”

“As a parent, your guidance and support will be important in helping your child process grief. Talking about this together, face-to-face, will give you a chance to discuss how your family understands and copes with loss. You may also want to discuss with your child how to be a supportive friend to classmates,” Fesco wrote.

“This loss might remind your student of past losses as well. The most important thing you can do is provide your child a chance to be heard and to express their feelings.”

Austin’s father, Jeff Metcalf, also organized a fundraising campaign on the GoFundMe page.

According to the fundraising campaign:

My son, Austin Metcalf, was tragically stabbed today at a school track meet. They were not able to save him. He was a bright young man with a great future ahead of him. He was a leader of men. His smile would light up the room. His passion for football was unbelievable. Voted team MVP this past season and carried a 4.0 GPA.

He was looking forward to taking his game to the next level. His commitment, dedication, leadership, and sheer grit made him rise to the level of success that he desired. His twin brother, Hunter, played beside him.

We will all remember him for the way he impacted others’ lives. I love you forever, son. It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later. God will take care of us till we meet again. RIP. Love, Dad
