Having recently faced the prospect of decades behind bars, Daniel Penny finally has the chance to move on with his life.
The former marine, who was acquitted last month on charges related to the death of Jordan Neely, will join the Silicon Valley investment firm Andreessen Horowitz.
His hiring, first reported by The Free Press, was relayed to employees in a memo sent this week.
“He will learn the business of investing and he will work to support our portfolio companies,” General Partner David Ulevitch wrote.

As readers will remember, Penny bravely defended his fellow passengers on the New York subway from Neely, a black homeless man with a long criminal rap sheet and history of mental illness.
After placing him in a chokehold, Neely died shortly afterward.

While most Americans lauded him as a hero, far-left New York prosecutors sought to imprison him for his actions and charged him with criminally negligent homicide and second-degree manslaughter.
Had he been convicted, he would have faced potentially decades in prison.
In his announcement, Ulevitch did not shy away from Penny’s trial and consequent acquittal.
“I believe, as I know many of you do, that Daniel acted with courage in a tough situation,” he wrote.
“He was acquitted of all charges. Beyond that, it has always been our policy to evaluate the entire person and not judge them for the worst moment in their entire life.”
He added that Penny will work to “strengthen the firm’s relationships with the Department of Defense and public safety sector.”
This will involve remaining in New York with the company’s American Dynamism practice, a branch of the company that “invests in founders and companies that support the national interest.”
“We believe in Daniel and are excited to have him as part of our team,” he continued.
Good luck to Daniel with this exciting new chapter of his life.
