The nativity scene at the St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church in Queens was vandalized last week.
Police were called about two individuals vandalizing the display between 7:50 and 9:50 p.m. on January 5.
The vandals kicked down the plastic cover protecting the display, ripped off the Christmas lights, and knocked over the figures.
John Quaglione, the deputy press secretary of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, told QNS that the nativity has since been fixed.
“One of them went inside the nativity and pulled the figures off of Blessed Mother and baby Jesus which were nailed to the wooden platform,” Quaglione said. “They then destroyed all the light decorations outside and inside.”
The two suspects were caught on camera arriving on a scooter at 7:53 p.m. and returning at 9:45 p.m. on two scooters.
Descriptions and photos of the suspects have not been made public at this time.
No arrests have been made.
